Article & Photos by Cindy Bright, U.M.T.R. Director Christian Education......posted 7-13-09

vbs09edgelogo1As children entered the First Christian Church last week, they stepped into an indoor woodland complete with a campsite, a creek and even a cave! Camp EDGE, where kids learned to Experience and Discover God Everywhere, was brought to life by an amazing group of volunteers from the Christian Church and the United Methodist Temple.  *To continue article and view photos, click "read more".

Kids started each camp time with exciting music and great stories. Extreme Jean spoke to the kids each night through the wonder of video technology. She demonstrated a different extreme sport each time. They met a crazy fox named Sparks who was always trying out some extreme activity – usually unsuccessfully! After a delicious meal each evening, the kids were dismissed to a tour of biblical sites complete with characters. They met “King Herod”,” a Pharisee”,” the disciples” at the Last Supper and even” Jesus” made an appearance. The volunteers did a great job bringing the Bible to life. They were able to bring out their creative side in the craft room with projects like making a three dimensional star, a painted canvas and a personalized backpack. Through each craft the kids were reminded of the Bible Story of the day. The beautifully decorated room, done by more dedicated volunteers, helped the creativity flow. Fun and learning were the order of the day at the games. The kids ran relays, complete with water balloons, but the highlight was the zip line. The amazing volunteers actually constructed a zip line for the kids. The zip line held two swing type seats so the kids could be strapped in and whiz from one end of the line to the other. On the final night, Pastor Lee Young spoke to the children about Jesus and made an invitation to any who wanted Jesus to be Lord of their life to come to the front of the sanctuary. Two children made a decision for Christ that night. The Lord was truly present at Vacation Bible School.
